The goal | Radio wave propagation characteristics. Modeling of propagation environment. Basic concepts of radio communication systems organization. Basic design concepts of modern radio communication systems. | |||
The outcome | Student should master the basic concepts and the basic phenomena associated with the propagation of radio waves. Additionally, at the end of the course the student should have the ability to independently perform basic analysis of a radio communication system from the perspective of technology and organization. | |||

Contents of lectures | Frequency bands utilization. Temporal and spatial radio channel variability. Free space propagation. Fresnel zone. Refractivity. Diffraction. Reflection. Radio noise. Modeling of propagation environment (deterministic and statistical approach). Macrocell, microcell and indoor models. Interfrence. Intermodulation. Diversity. Cellular principle. Handover. Contents of exercises | LAB: Practical exercises in spectrum analyzer. Radio Systems Design Tool. The calculation of radio coverage and determining the service area. Intermodulation products simulator. Measuring of the electric field strength of test transmitter. | |||
