The goal | Communicating about science and technology in a wide range of electrical engineering subject areas. Developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Comparing written and spoken information. Writing short descriptions and explanations of components and processes. Solving challenging and creative communication problems using the language skills. | |||
The outcome | Upon the completion of the course students will be able to: - understand native speakers talking about their work and study, - communicate about electrical engineering topics, - understand texts (diagrams, graphs, tables) - write descriptions and explanations of components and processes - write study-related and work-related e-mails | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Structural, functional, textual and discoursal aspects of English for Electrical Engineering. Descriptive English language grammar: nouns, pronouns, determiners, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions, sentence structure. Principles of writing a technical project in English and creating a Power Point presentation on a topic of electrical engineering. | |||
Contents of exercises | Fluency and accuracy practice activities. Checking the students’ comprehension of the grammar and lexical content of the units. Realistic listening activities in connection with English for Electrical Engineering. Practising relevant English Electrical Engineering vocabulary in context. Written and spoken communication on electrical engineering topics accompanied by Power Point presentations. | |||
