The goal | Qualifying students for reading electrical engineering textbooks, manuals and reference works in English at upper-intermediate level. Exposing students to the kind of technical texts used by their fellows in English-speaking countries. Tasking students with combining knowledge of English and knowledge of technical subjects at the practice and production stages. | |||
The outcome | Upon the completion of this module students should be able to: - exchange written and spoken pieces of specific information, - complete diagrams and tables in accordance with the given instructions, - solve specific problems in English - scan an electrical engineering text in order to find pieces of specific information - note details from spoken and written discourse of electrical engineering | |||

Contents of lectures | Locating, applying and transferring information related to English for Electrical Engineering. Linking facts and ideas. Indefinite, interrogative, reflexive and relative pronouns, intensifiers, passive constructions, sentences with more than two main clauses, modal verbs, conditionals, collocations in English for Electrical Engineering. Information compression principles. | |||
Contents of exercises | Writing summaries and abstracts. Creating Power Point presentations referring to an electrical engineerin topic. Describing the function of specific components in written and spoken form. Identifying details from spoken discourse of electrical engineering. Transferring information from a written text to a diagram. Writing short explanation of electronic circuits. | |||
