    Condition
The goal Students gain knowledge how lightning overvoltages occur in distribution networks and the types of protection. The goal is to familiarize students with the various devices used for lightning protection, from the aspect of their construction, characteristics and methods of selection depending on the type of objects to be protected and their coordination as well.
The outcome Training students for planning, designing and maintaining surge protection in distribution networks.
    Contents
Contents of lectures Parameters of lightning. Lightning overvoltages in buildings. Internal lightning protection installation. Surge Protection Devices (SPD). Types and characteristics of devices. Protection levels and installation site selection. Determining the risk of atmospheric discharge. Overvoltage protection of distributed sources of electricity. Software for the calculation of protection zones.
Contents of exercises Practical exercises follow the topics presented in theoretical classes. During the exercises, students are introduced to professional software for the calculation of protective zones.
