The goal | Introducing students to the controlled electric drives, the drive control structures, methods of analysis, integration of the necessary equipment, and selection of structure and parameters of control system. Study of modern control strategies and their application in controlled drives. | |||
The outcome | Knowledge and understanding of the basic principles and peculiarities of controlled electric drives. Ability to perform conceptual and detailed design and selection of power supply and control. Familiarity with typical solutions and equipment. | |||

Contents of lectures | Controlled EMP as a system with feedback. Quality assessment of controlled EMP. Methods of analyses and Synthesis. Realization. Drives with DC motors. Armature voltage and field control. EMP with AC motors. EMP with voltage and current inverters. Scalar and vector control. Direct Torque Control. Measurements and control of process variables. Integration with supervisory control. | |||
Contents of exercises | The purpose of the regulation, the current, speed and position feedback, regulators and other elements, stability, static and dynamic performance. The analysis in the frequency and time domain. Dynamic block diagram, analysis using computer simulation, the choice of structure, the optimal gain and time constants, adaptation, observers. Lab excercises: controlled drives with DC and induction motor. | |||
