The goal | Introducing basic characteristics and engineering concepts of passive microwave components and subsystems. Training students to design basic passive microwave components and subsystems. Training students to analyze and design microwave components and subsystems using s-parameters.
The outcome | Students will gain skills to completely design basic microwave passive components, by the use of contemporary CAD programs, through the following phases: design of the ideal and real model, layout of the printed circuit board, verification of the laboratory prototype by measurements.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Transmission lines and waveguides. Multiconductor transmission lines. Solving microwave circuits. Lumped passive RF components, SMD components. Loads, short circuits, sections, stubs, sliding elements, attenuators, phase shifters, dividers, directional couplers, ferrite components, resonators. Matching networks. Microwave filters. Computer simulation and optimization of microwave circuits.
Contents of exercises | Laboratory work. Modelling and design of basic microwave passive components, with the stress on components in the technique of planar transmission lines. Design and production of the laboratory prototype of one assigned component and verification of its parameters by measurements on a vector network analyzer.
