The goal Introduce the students to fundamentals of telecommunication measurements and instrumentation. Make them capable of performing basic measurements in time and frequency domain. Make them capable of processing the obtained results and preparing a report.
The outcome The students will be able to connect different pieces of laboratory equipment, perform basic telecommunications measurements, process the results, and make a report.
Contents
Contents of lectures Types and organization of measurements in telecommunications. Instrumentation for measurements. Passive components. Power supplies. Signal sources. Signal level measurement. Frequency and time measurement. Digital storage oscilloscope. Signal characterization in time domain. Spectrum analyzer. Processing and presentation of results. Report preparation.
Contents of exercises Work in laboratory. Training in instruments use. Results processing in GNU Octave and gnuplot free software tools.
