The goal | Introduce students to the basic concepts of medical imaging, image properties and quality and many of the medical imaging modalities (radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, US, SPECT and PET). Introduce students the basic concepts of tomography and Radon transform. Analytic (BP, FBP, etc.) and iterative (MLEM, OSMLEM, OSL etc.) image reconstruction methods form projections are analyzed in detail.
The outcome | Students will be enabled to be engaged in a medical imaging. They will have active knowledge in the field of projection radiography and tomography. They will be able, as a engineer, to understand, design, improve and maintain medical imaging devices.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Medical image properties. Imaging modalities in nuclear medicine and radiology: SPECT, PET (detectors and image reconstruction), CT (detectors and fan-beam geometry), MRI (Bloch equation and imaging equation), radiography, fluoroscopy and US (physics and imaging). Mathematical formulation of tomography. Transform methods: BP, FBP, etc. Algebraic reconstruction algorithms (MLEM, OSMLEM, etc.).
