The goal | Review construction and characteristics of electric vehicles. Describe basic concepts of electric propulsion systems. Explain the role of traction power converters and traction motors. Kinematics and dynamics of electric vehicles. | |||
The outcome | Mastering the kinematics and dynamics of the vehicle, the implementation of methods traction, power and speed of the travel diagrams. Students learn to analyze and design systems with electric traction motor and traction drive. Design and implementation of management. | |||

Contents of lectures | Transportation systems and vehicles which use electric propulsion. Characteristics of railways, urban trains, trams, trolley buses and road vehicles. Brief history of railways and train supply systems. Kinematics and dynamics of electric vehicles. Derivation of traction force and torque. . Basic hardware and software prerequisites for controlling the AC traction motors and power converters. | |||
Contents of exercises | Controlling the power and momentum, starting characteristics. Work in the area of field weakening and breaking. Reostatska control of traction drives with DC motors. Power of traction motor chopper. Asymmetric reduction of tripping and reactive power. Topology traction inverter power asynchronous and synchronous traction motors. Linear traction motors. | |||
