The goal | Introduce students to models and methods for steady – state and transient analyses of power systems (fundamental calculations, reactive power and short circuit calculations ).
The outcome | Provide students with the ability to implement power network computations, to design corresponding algorithms and to estimate the impact of computations on power system performance.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Introduction and historical overview. Fundamental calculations (voltage drop and power losses calculations). Reactive power compensation: shunt and series capacitors. Short circuit computations and Z bus matrix. Positive, negative and zero impedance of overhead lines, transformers and induction machines. Neutral grounding. Short circuit effects. Impact on telecommunication lines. Series faults.
Contents of exercises | Teaching assistant auditory exercises with real time examples from power systems (power balance, voltage drop, reactive power calculations and short circuit calculations).
