      The goal 1) Understanding how work advanced optoelectronic devices used in optical networks. 2) Recognize nonlinear optical processes which obstruct correct work of optical networks. 3) Introduce students to modern optical signal switching. 4) Explain how to utilize advantages of optical networks.
      The outcome It is expected that student: 1) learn basic optoelectronic components and elements in optical networks, 2) understand difference (when compared with electronic) and advantages of optical signal switching and 3) learn all type of backbone, metro and access optical networks and basis of its construction.

      Contents of lectures Development trends of Optical Networks (ON). ON components and elements: splitters and couplers, circulators, optical amplifiers - SOA, EDFA, Raman, Add - Drop multiplexers, OXC, special WDM components. ON types – classification. ON design. TDM. SONET/SDH. WDM. OTDM. Soliton communications. GMPLS, OBS and OPS. Long - haul ON. WAN. MAN. PON. FTTx. WON. LAN. Measurements in ON.
