    The goal Introducing students with the hardware and software foundations of measurement systems. Provide the students with the ability to analyze, design and implement analog and digital interfacing circuits and to integrate computer-based measurement system. Training students to analyze the program and develop application software for data acquisition, signal processing and display of measurement data.
    The outcome Upon completion of this course, students should know how to: - Analyze and design analog and digital interfacing circuits for transducers and electronic measurement devices, - Develop LabVindows/CVI program for the data acquisition, signal processing and display of measurement results to PC.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Standard architecture of measuring systems. Organization of software. Sensors. Measurement of physical quantities. Computer based measurement systems. PC architecture. Connecting the measuring system via a common bus. Connecting the measuring system via standard communication interfaces. Intelligent transducers. Distributed measurement systems. Virtual instrumentation. Data acquisition software.
    Contents of exercises Solving tasks related to the measurement of physical quantities, signal processing and calculation of measurement results Application of Measurement & Automation Explorer Application of LabVindows/CVI Sensors and interfacing circuits Temperature measurement using Pt100 Measurement of force using strain gages Interfacing instrumentation with PC via the IEEE-488 Bus, RS-232 and USB interfaces
