Condition | no, desirable prerequisite is passed exam in Optical Networks (OF4OM or OT4OM)
The goal | 1) Introduce students to WDM technology. 2) Describing how modern optoelectronic devices used in WDM optical networks (ONs) work. 3) Introduce students with measurement technique and tools used in WDM ONs. 3) Implementation of WDM ONs.
The outcome | It is expected that students: 1) recognize modern technology, 2) learn OAM (operation, administration and maintenance) and 3) understand measurement methods and introduce to tools used in maintenance and fault clearance, in WDM ON.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Rising of optical data transfer. WDM signals transmission: attenuation, dispersion and nonlinear effects. WDM in optical networks: network elements, optoelectronic and optical transport networks (OTN). Advantages of WDM when compared with SONET/SDH. Measurements in WDM optical networks. Testbeds: HORNET, others.
