The goal | Defining the design procedures of different wireless networks. Identifing similarities and differences in the medium access control techniques, especially in quality of service networks. Analyzing the protocols for mobility management (raoming, handover). Determining the design procedures of wireless networks with multi-channel multi-interface nodes.
The outcome | Students should understand the organisation of different wireless networks. Also, they should be able to carry out all phases of design procedure.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Technical concepts of WLAN, 3GPP, sensor, mesh, and WiMax networks. Architecture, the MAC layer protocols (medium access control), mobility management protocols, security in wireless networks. MIPv4, MIPv6 and micromobility protocols. The interoperability between 3GPP and WLAN networks. Routing techniques. The concept of single- and multi-channel (single- and multi-interface) nodes.
Contents of exercises | Measurements in WLAN Networks. Configuration and analysis of WLANs. Analysis of MAC protocols for sensor and mesh networks by using the software packages developed for those purposes.
