The goal | Introducing the students to the components, systems and techniques of signal transmission in modern optical communication. Acquainting with the propagation of electromagnetic waves in optical fibers, dispersion theory and signal attenuation in the fiber, the theory of optical sources, amplifiers and receivers. Mastering engineering skills of designing the optical links.
The outcome | Students should understand the principle of operation of the physical layer and corresponding components of modern optical broadband telecommunications networks and be able to design an optical link with intensity modulation and direct detection. The knowledge gives basis for further development regarding the principles of operation of optical networks.
