    Condition
    The goal Providing the students with the knowledge about basic characteristics and testing methods of biomaterials, and their applications for bioimplants in medicine and dentistry.
    The outcome Students should be able to: 1) recognize the fundamental characteristics of biomaterials, 2) select the appropriate basic method of biomaterials characterization, and 3) recommend biomaterials and bioimplants in medicine and stomatology.

    Contents of lectures Introduction. Characterization of biomaterials (structural, mechanical, physical, chemical, biochemical). Characteristics and engineering of biomaterials (metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, bioderivatives). Exploitation stability of biomaterials. Organism reaction on biomaterials. Bioimplants in medicine and dentistry. Selection of biomaterials for the construction of bioimplants.
    Contents of exercises Recitations, seminars and demonstrations in other centres and laboratories following the lecture topics.

    Methods of teaching 45 hours of lectures and seminars + 30 hours of recitations, seminars and demonstrations in other centres and laboratories, student seminars with presentations, pre-exam by the end of semester. Around 75 hours of independent study (3 hours per week during the semester, and approximately 30 hours of preparation during exam period).
