The goal | The main purpose is to achieve a reliable transmission system that meets the specified objectives (quality and availability). Link design (choice of equipment and antenna types, diversity techniques, quality and availability calculation). Network design (defining the required capacity, system configuration, interference calculations and frequency planning). | |||
The outcome | Students should gain an insight into ways of designing of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint systems. Also, they should be able to carry out all phases of microwave system design procedure, both at the level of the individual microwave link, and the microwave transmission network as a whole. | |||

Contents of lectures | Path analysis. Performance and availability predictions and objectives. Device configurations and antenna types. Passive relay stations. Concept of diversity protection. Co-channel operation and cross-polar interference. Microwave link design. Interference calculations on digital network and frequency planning. | |||
Contents of exercises | Device configuration and performance and availability analysis of the microwave link. Using a software package for radio-relay links design through independent projects. Interference calculations and frequency planning of radio-relay systems by using a software package developed for that purpose. | |||
