The goal Introduction of the basic concepts of power system substations. Understanding the basics of high voltage substations in distribution and transmission networks and power plants. Training students for design, operation and maintenance of high- voltage substations.
The outcome Obtained knowledge of methods for calculation of short circuit current. Obtained knowledge of equipment selection in electrical substations. The principles of designing electrical substations up to the level of concept design. Training students for the exploitation and maintenance of high voltage substations.

Contents of lectures Calculation of short circuit current and their characteristic values. Basic elements of substations: busbars, isolators, cables, current, voltage and power transformers, reactors, resistors, circuit breakers, disconnectors, fuses, surge arresters and groundings. Connection and disposition of electrical equipment in substations. Air and gas isolated substations.
Contents of exercises Auditory exercises, computer exercises, laboratory exercises and visiting transmission and distribution substations.
