Condition
The goal Acquiring advanced knowledge of radiation measurements, dosimetry, detectors, dosimeters and spectrometers of ionizing radiation, methods and techniques of radiation protection.
The outcome High-level knowledge of the physical principles of ionizing radiation detection, and of the technical characteristics of radiation detectors and dosimeters. Mastering the criteria for selecting the appropriate type of detector. Proficiency in ionizing radiation measurements, selection of dosimeters for radiation monitoring, as well as for implementing radiation protection measures.
Contents
Contents of lectures Types and sources of ionizing radiation. Activity. Radiometric quantities. Radiation interactions. Radiation detectors and spectrometers. Alternative and new types of detectors. Dosimetric quantities. Cavity theories. Dosimeters. Biological effects of radiation. Micro and nanodosimetry. Physical quantities in radiation protection. Radiation protection measures: dosimetric monitoring and shielding.
Contents of exercises Problem-solving exercises (which illustrate topics covered by the theoretical contents of the course).
