The goal | Introduction to the concept of electron spin. Presenting the basic principles of spintronic devices. Introducing the concept of magnetic semiconductors. Introduction to the existing applications of spintronics in fabrication of MRAM and logic circuits. | |||
The outcome | By studying this course, students become familiarized with the basic concepts of a new scientific discipline in which the electron spin is information carrier. The course prepares students for understanding and accepting the new technologies that are based on spintronics. | |||

Contents of lectures | Quantum-mechanical treatment of spin. Spin in semiconductors. Rashba and Dresselhaus effect. Ferromagnetic III-V semiconductors and their heterostructures. Spin injection and transport. Spin coherence and precession. Optical manipulation and preserving the spin coherence. Qubit. Giant magnetoresistance. | |||
