The goal Introduction to advanced management functionalities of public mobile systems. Design and dimensioning of base station subsystem - calculating coverage and capacity. Core network design and dimensioning.
The outcome Student should gain an insight into the organization and advanced features of the modern public mobile systems, as well as the ability to independently carry out the basic design of such systems. Student should gain a solid foundation for independent research activities.

Contents of lectures Radio network design and dimensioning for GSM,UMTS and LTE. GSM, UMTS, LTE advanced radio network functionalities. Security aspects - authentication and ciphering. Core network design and dimensioning. MIN - Mobile Intelligent Networks. 3GPP Packet Switched Domain. Number portability. IMS - IP Multimedia Subsystem. Future trends.
Contents of exercises LAB: Measurements of the basic parameters of GSM and UMTS air interface using advanced measurement systems. GSM, UMTS and LTE simulators. Dimensioning of core network elements .
