The goal | Obtaining knowledge about the concept and the elements for photovoltaic power conversion. Structure of power converters for this purpose, including topologies, characteristics and measuring, control and protection elements, and selection of microcontrollers. | |||
The outcome | Knowledge about the elements of photovoltaic systems, payback period, off-grid solutions, grid connected systems, possible applications, control and algorithms implemented in power converters, design of photovoltaic equipment and other components of connection electrical installation. | |||

Contents of lectures | Solar cells. Power Converters. Control: MPP tracking, Control of the voltage on bulk capacitor, PLL, Current control. Detection of grid outage, detection of electric arc. Digital controllers and state flow control. Optimization of hybrid power supply (solar, wind, batteries, diesel-electric generator), using solar calculator. Design of PV systems using commercial equipment. | |||
Contents of exercises | Package of 3 laboratory exercises on hardware (grid current controller, PLL, islanding detection). Package of 2 laboratory exercises related to the simulation with state flow control, grid current control, PLL, bulk capacitor voltage control, MPPT). Visit of one grid connected PV system in operation. | |||
