The goal | Prepare students to communicate with researchers in the field of medicine; prepare students to understand the characteristics of biological signals, enable students to start studying the organism, enable students to design simple components and systems and apply simple signal/image processing for medical applications. | |||

Contents of lectures | Cells and processes on cell membrane. Organization and functional units in nervous system. Morphology and physiology of muscular and vascular system. Hematology. Respiratory system. Digestive tract. Urinary system. Endocrine system. Lymphatic system. Skeletal system. Sensory system and methods of substitution. Instrumentation for measuring/processing of physiological signals and medical imaging. | |||
Contents of exercises | Laboratory exercises, simulations and measurements of physiological signals, visualization of tissues and systems (medical imaging). | |||

Methods of teaching | Lectures, exercises and laboratory exercises. Studying of human system and basic characteristics of biological signals based on real measurements acquired by commercial systems or laboratory prototypes, as well as on the analysis of open Internet database of signals/images.
