The goal | Planning covers network configuration, capacity, antenna types, devices and diversity. Performance and unavailability evaluation. Calculations of system interference and frequency planning. Wave propagation in the atmosphere and its impact on the performance of digital radio relay systems. The main purpose is to achieve a reliable transmission system that meets the specified objectives. | |||
The outcome | Students should gain an insight into ways of designing of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint systems. Also, they should be able to carry out all phases of microwave system design procedure. | |||

Contents of lectures | Path analysis. Antennas. Passive relay stations. Performance and availability predictions and objectives. Co-channel operation and cross-polar interference. Device configurations. Concept of diversity protection. Interference calculations on digital network and frequency planning. Main principles of design and frequency planning of the point-to-multipoint system. | |||
Contents of exercises | Device configuration and performance and availability analysis of the microwave link. Using a software package for radio-relay links design through independent projects. Interference calculations and frequency planning of radio-relay systems by using a software package developed for that purpose. | |||
