The goal Explaining principles and existing technologies for circuit and packet switches, as well as the interoperability between circuit switched and packet switched networks. Special attention is given to the management and configuration of switching devices, and to the signalization and synchronization aspects.
The outcome After finishing the course, students will have adequate theoretical and practical knowledge of switching systems that will enable them to accomplish tasks in the area of communication networks.

Contents of lectures Introduction to switching systems. Fundamentals of circuit and packet switching. Circuit switches. Packet switches. Management and configuration of switching and routing devices. Synchronization. Signaling. Interoperability between circuit switched and packet switched networks.
Contents of exercises Solving the practical problems in the area of switching systems through precepts. Configurations of switching systems, routers and gateways in the lab.
