The goal | Introduction students with basic principles of voice transfer over the IP based networks. Introduction students with commercial solutions for IP telephony. | |||
The outcome | Students should be proficient to: - do network design of telephony service based on IP telephony technology for the company with dozens of remote locations and to connect it to public switched telephone network; - configure basic telephony services in IP based telephony systems of Cisco, Siemens and Asterisk. | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | History of IP telephony development. Voice compression. Major techniques for voice compression, quality assessment, characteristics. Voice over IP technology. QoS requests for voice. ITU-T H.323 protocols infrastructure. IETF SIP protocols infrastructure. Signalization in IP based network. Examples of commercial solutions: Cisco Systems, Siemens, Avaya, Asterisk, Skype. | |||
Contents of exercises | Students will familiarize with practical work with Cisco, Siemens and Asterisk communication equipment. They should be capable to do configuration of basic and some advance services in IP telephony networks. | |||

Methods of teaching | Teaching, exercises and practical work with communication equipment in laboratories. At the end of semester, students are doing by themselves network design of telephony network for interconnection remote locations and implementation basic and some advance telephony services with connection to public switch telephone network. | |||
