The goal Acquiring the basic knowledge of construction and operation principles of power transformers, their use and behavior in normal and emergency modes in the EPS, basic types in respect to their use and on site monitoring.
The outcome Mastering the techniques for selection of power transformers in respect to plant characteristics; the ability of analysis and prediction of behavior of transformers in various operational modes; monitoring, testing and maintenance of transformers.

Contents of lectures Operation principles, construction, main equations. No-load operation and no-load and short circuit tests. Equivalantly scheme. Losses and power efficiency. Voltage drop. Thermal problems. Connection, short circuit current, mechanical forces, overvoltages. Three phase winding connections. Parallel operation. Asymmetric modes, special transformers. Control, prevention, maintenance, protection.
Contents of exercises No-load and short circuit tests in laboratory. Measurement of power losses, determination of equivalent circuit parameters and voltage ratio. One day visit to factory of power transformers "MINEL Transformers".
