Software Engineer

Vast is looking to hire a Software Engineer to join our Belgrade-based Data Engineering team.

At Vast we’re building a big-data platform to serve some of the biggest brands in the Autos (AOL, CarFax, Yahoo!), Real Estate (USAA) and Travel (Southwest Airlines) markets. We’re building a suite of products to bring big data to big purchases.

As a Software Engineer you’ll join the Data Engineering team, in charge of Vast’s Platform for Large-Scale Data Processing, conducting Analysis of vast amounts of user-generated data and Vertical Search. You’ll help retain Vast's big-data advantages, such as our 6 million car listings, with the best sorting, market and user traffic analytics data, gathered from years of running some of the biggest Automotive search sites in the US.

You’d work within teams created around particular projects, with the possibility of advancing to become a team leader. Your job would involve working on open-source projects and implementing the Big-Data platform around these.

We use time-proven Big-Data technologies and constantly explore everything that’s cutting edge. Right now some technologies we’re really into include Hadoop, Map Reduce, Cassandra, Amazon Web Services, Spark, YARN, Scala and so on.

Required skills:

  1. BSc / MS graduated and final year students in Computer Science or relevant studies
  2. Strong Computer Science background (algorithms, data structures, software design)
  3. Experience with Java Standard Edition
  4. Experience in development on Unix/Linux platform

Desired skills:

  1. A keen interest in learning and applying new technologies
  2. An in-depth knowledge of design and architectural patterns which enables you to make the right technical decisions
  3. Capable of expressing yourself in a way your audience understands
  4. You like clean code
  5. Experience with TDD/BDD
  6. Taking responsibility for others, helping them and guiding them if necessary
  7. Your development skills are valued more than the length of your professional experience

JavaScript Developer

Vast is seeking a JavaScript Developer to join our Belgrade based Front End team.

At Vast we are building a big data platform to serve some of the largest brands in the Autos (AOL, CarFax, Yahoo!), Real Estate (USAA) and Travel (Southwest Airlines) markets and build a suite of products that brings big data to big purchases.

Vast's Front End team in Belgrade consists of 23 skillful and well coordinated web developers who would love you to be their next teammate. As a Front End Developer you will be part of the Front End team and expected to build, maintain and optimize Node.js­ based applications.

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Experience in web development
  2. Experience with JavaScript
  3. Basic knowledge of source Version Control (Git, SVN)
  4. Comfortable with English language
  5. Experience with other web technology is an advantage (PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, etc)
