We are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year and as far as we know we are the oldest summer school on IoT in the world. Not bad, ha? To mark this occasion we plan to prepare even more exciting educational program - and social activities as well.

SocIoTal platform will be officially launched at the school. You will be able to use it together with other software and hardware tools, build smart city services, deploy them in Belgrade, present to the public and win an award: IoT gadgets, a night out in Belgrade, maybe even some pocket money.

The aim of the summer school is to:

  • Provide access to the latest results, trends, activities and applications in the IoT domain
  • Run experiments using heterogeneous devices and build your own live testbed deployment
  • Security, privacy and societal aspects of IoT
  • Identify novel research opportunities, important challenges and research directions
  • Demonstrate existing prototypes and demos - and implement new ones!
  • Interact with experienced researchers and establish new contacts
  • Have fun and enjoy Belgrade while acquiring new skills and expertise

PROGRAM

Hackhaton: Work in a teams comprising technical and business focused members in order to design and deploy solutions on different devices and frameworks, together with analysis of its market potential.

Lectures: Each day will feature lectures with subsequent discussions around important IoT research themes and technology areas:

  • IoT architecture: an overview of the proposals and approaches towards defining an overall architectural framework for IoT
  • Semantic sensor networks and Linked Open Data
  • Smart cities and intelligent buildings
  • Social impacts of IoT, role and potential of IPv6 in IoT, including co-creation process
  • Latest standards developments in IETF and ETSI, FI-PPP and IERC.

Lecturers include (to be confirmed): Alex Gluhak (Intel Labs), Srdjan Bozovic (Microsoft) Konrad Wrona (NCI Agency), Rob van Kronenburg (IoT Council), Sebastien Ziegler (Mandate International), Charalampos Doucas (Create Net), Richard D. Brant (Iacocca Institute), Klaus Moesnner (Univ of Surrey), Miodrag Bolic (Univ. of Otawa), Michele Nati (Digital Catapult), Antonio Skarmeta (Univ of Murcia), Srdjan Krco (DunavNET).

Participants Workshop: All participants will have an opportunity to exercise their presentation skills and to get constructive feedback while presenting their own work and/or the results of the team projects.

Social activities: A half-day excursion, a dinner party as well as other interesting social activities will be also organized.

VENUE

The summer school will take place in the hotel 88 rooms in Belgrade, a place to visit according to Lonely Planet.

REGISTRATION, COSTS and TRAVELING

Participation is open to all qualified applicants, but the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 50. Please register early. To apply, please fill in the form available at http://www.senzations.net.

The registration fee includes participation at all school activities, school material, 6 days shared accommodation in double rooms with half-board, a social event and access to all hotel (4*) facilities as well as access to Microsoft Azure cloud services required for Microsoft IoT lecture, provided by Microsoft (100USD and 1 month usage limit).
